| I may be wrong but I think hirers are encouraged to leave bikes in designated bays in Ealing but it will be obligatory for the Hounslow scheme. If the bays are properly marked then the latter may be the better option as I've noticed with the Ealing scheme the staff depositing the bikes often put them in the wrong place nearby where they are supposed to be. Although lots of parking is being lost, the nature of the scheme means that the spaces will be spread out so there hopefully won't be too big of an impact on the availability of spaces in a particular place. The thing I like least about these proposals is that it gives a clear indication that there is no intent to extend the Santander scheme which seems to me daft given the infrastructure that has been built in the area. PCN revenue from fines easily have gone to fund this. The schemes like Lime are much more expensive and come with attendant problems such as dumped bikes (although I think this is overstated). |
