| I’ve hosted the Chiswick Contact the Elderly tea parties twice a year for about a decade. It’s very much worth doing as the guests really appreciate it and it’s good to catch up with the drivers too. Some public-spirited souls host and then drive other months but that’s too much for me. The guests love having a “proper” tea and all the hosts provide different ingredients. Most of them must be better bakers than me: I can do scones but outsource cakes to my son in law. But what they mostly appreciate is the chat at tea and the ongoing relationships with each other and the drivers. I think that makes it worthwhile. Otherwise some are really very lonely indeed. |
