| I think the term 'affordable' ought to be banned - it's total and utter claptrap, anything is affordable if you've got the money. Rents, we are told, have again risen and as 'affordable' is apparently deemed to be 80% of a market rate that means affordable has also gone further out of the reach of people. Until and unless there is a massive drive to again build genuine council housing - NOT mostly housing association schemes, then nothing is going to change. As for planning officers they can only work with what they get - they don't design homes or apply for any planning permission, and they have legislation to guide the decisions they make, councillors are there to represent us, they need better and regular training in planning matters, ultimately they are the decision makers. |
