I completely  agree there has been far too much use and abuse of these services. I once stood there and asked several people using the Sainsbury's recycling bins for items that they could and should be putting in their kerbside collections - why were they using them?  At that time there was a lot less flats recycling than there is now.

There will always be chancers too ready to take your money going around offering to remove your waste and then dumping it.  If it is found to be yours you'll get a hefty fine too.  It sounds as though that may have got worse from what Guy says.

I used to use the recycling box for the new long life lightbulbs which was outside and the batteries and carrier bag/plastic bag recycling in store.  Occasionally if caught out with a missed collection I'd use a bottle or can bank.

It was fast just becoming a dumping ground for business and builder's waste.  This was also happening at Stirling Road before it closed.  Stirling Road was just for household waste and recycling.  Business waste is treated differently and the disposal of this is NOT included in Council Tax and that is a countrywide not a local decision.

The different councils' websites are available 24hr to check what you can put in your recycling and waste bins and how it should be presented. Check you are up to date.

Please help your neighbours if they are unable to cope.  It is better than getting irritated and angry with them. You could print out out the info from the website for them or if there is any change in collection.  (Even grouches can do this :).)You might even at this time of year be charitable enough to AGREE to share bins with each other since some people will be away for some of it!

And PLEASE PLEASE don't block the pavements with Christmas trees.
