| I don't consider Iran International's news output as "propaganda" and I doubt many of the journalists there would consider themselves anything but independent. That's not to say there aren't inappropriate limits on editorial independence particularly when it comes to criticism (or lack thereof) of the Saudi regime. I would, however, dispute your assertion that Iran International is a Saudi government mouthpiece. The key issue here is that the Iranian government is trying to kill journalists in the UK because the output, which is factual, offends them. You suggest that in light of the Iranian threats, this News organisation should be banned from the UK - or if they want to stay in the UK on your terms, then they have to cease reporting on events happening in Iran. That is giving in to state sponsored terrorism. I see a parallel with the Salman Rushdie case where threats against his life by the Iranian regime led to some voices suggesting he was at fault for his views and his writing and he should be denied state protection. |
