Don't get your hopes up - it is actually bad news for all of us. I noticed yesterday that The Italians on Chiswick High Road has been forced to stop doing table service and limit opening hours because some of the staff have been 'pinged' by Track and Trace. Private Eye this week suggested that if the projections for the Delta variant's progression are proved correct then a million people in this country could be required to self-isolate. This is literally insane at a time when the government are basically following a policy of letting the virus rip for the time-being in the hope of mitigating  the winter surge. We should be supporting The Italians (not the Italians obviously) and other local businesses at times like this but a loyal and appreciative customer base may not be enough to save them with government policies as inept and contradictory as we have currently. On the same subject the article currently on the front page shows that London Underground is struggling with the system at the moment and as tube drivers get full salary while of sick they will be scrupulous in not coming to work if notified they need to self-isolate so this is clearly causing problems for the network. This in turn is likely to lead to more crowded trains and a more rapid spread of the disease. Nobody seems to have an strategic control of what is going on at the moment.
