Ealing Council might want to present this as response to the will of the people but the scrapping of the scheme was done in a panic after Hounslow Council called their bluff and announced what effectively was a border closure. LTN21 had been displacing traffic from Ealing into Brentford and causing huge jams particularly on Swyncombe Avenue. Hounslow had been receiving a huge number of complaints from residents, and as they were in wards that actually voted for them, they had to listen. Attempts to create a 'super LTN' across the two boroughs came to nothing. Whether Hounslow Council brought forward these roadworks to give them an excuse for action or whether they really had to happen at this time, we won't be told but by closing Swyncombe Avenue at the junction with Boston Manor Road, Hounslow was redirecting the displaced traffic back to Ealing. The new leadership already seems to be portraying the more as their enlightenment in getting rid of policies of the former regime but the haste with which this is being done shows their hand was forced. They now have to consider what they are going to do about all the revenue that has been lost from the ANPR cameras in the LTN.
