| Ealing Council announced this afternoon that they are to remove the biggest LTN they introduced during the Covid crisis - LTN21 in West Ealing. http://www.ealingtoday.co.uk/default.asp?section=info&page=conroad041.htm Ostensibly this is because there are major roadworks about to take place next to it in Brentford but it doesn't look like it will return. It saw similar levels of local opposition shown to some of the measures introduced in Chiswick but it covered a large area and within that there appear to be parts of it that were working quite well. Whether this move was due to the change of regime at the council or the likely chaos when the roadworks start we will probably never be told. The interesting thing is that the council have promised CPZ style consultations on the remaining LTNs when they come up for a final review. This suggests that it is very unlikely that schemes with strong local opposition have a limited shelf life. Fisher's Lane underpass is in Ealing borough so that seems certain to go despite the revenue it generates. Whether this sets a precedent that Hounslow will feel obliged to follow remains to be seen. |
