One thing that struck me about walking along the High Road this Christmas was how prevalent digital advertising boards had become. This may not be a totally new phenomenon but it does seem to have increased a lot this year. It does make the walk a bit more of an assault on the senses.
I noticed that the Council seem to take a lot of advertising on these displays, there was one for their culture bid and one belated encouraging to use PayByPhone. This raises the question are they paying the full rate for these, in which case is the squeeze on council finances as great as they are saying? Or are they getting a discounted rate, in which case doesn't that compromise their position as the licensing authority for these displays and explain why we seem to have so many all of a sudden? |
