| The lessons weren't learned before - they weren't learned after Lakanal and other fires. It is a bigger problem than just the cladding - just changing that will not sort out the failures in the system. How will the fire service deal with high rise fires when buildings may not be built to tested and approved methods with tested and approved materials to tested and approved designs? We became too trusting of the system and a lot of the teamwork and professionalism has gone. Buildings should now also be built to deal with greater climatic changes - keeping warm and keeping cool. Ticking boxes and saving money on building costs - materials and manpower - to make less work on site in order to make more money is not the answer to everything and can encourage mistakes and misguided shortcuts. |
