Yes, I too, second the advice to contact CHS.  They have a website - www.chsw4.org - which will tell you where the Trading Hut is and all about the society.

I personally do have raised beds on my allotment and enjoy working it in this way - but it's not obligatory and as they say "there's more than one way to skin a cat" (apologies to cat lovers) ...
