| I do know students who are occupying at the moment. Arts get hit first in this situation as in the medium term we need more people in science and manufacturing. Some arts degrees are directly related to this but some, with more a historical bent, arnt. Whilst critical thinking is a vital thing all students can learn and I have an arts background as well I do feel that an arts degree is very much a luxury course compared to more directly vocational course. Whist knowing the history of pop art is interesting I can't say I've applied it much to the work I do, unlike the degree I took which, unlike many, I still use in my day to day work. I'm personally for more vocational degrees with a good amount of rich cultural stuff mixed in, history and arts in context. |
