The pub pays, but the amount varies depending on what you can negotiate! - not much point in paying to play - had enough of that at the big festivals! - if we're happy with the deal, we play: if not, forget it! And yes, it used to be a real heavy metal place - and along with that went slashed/worn out furniture and general filth - it's now clean and pleasant inside and the current management reckon they're happy with any genre of music that doesn't scare people away. I'm just happy to swap info about any venues I come across - it's not always easy to find.
