Thing is as you get into music more and more there are more and more devisions of musical types that the casual punter doesn't care about. Skunk Anansie, for example, are Alternative Rock, much like the Smashing Pumpkins. Rock as more flavours than you can find at blackpool and each is distinctive.  That doesn't mean you have to stick to that label, good bands go into all kinds of different territory in my view. I couldn't be in a band that just played X kind of music or just played covers, but that's my personal thing. For exaample I'm not a fan of blues/rock as it tends to lack any originality and often ends up with a bunch of covers, you get into wedding band territory, safe, nice, well played but not really 'proper' live music. There are many places who do live music, cover bands, jazz, blues rock, that kind of stuff. BUT there are few that do 'proper' live music, all original stuff and bands trying to be to make music that may make a difference later. This is of course a matter of taste. The Gunnersbury appears to prefer pub rock bands, yep it's a label but you do know what you'll get, lots of bluesy rock songs with guitar solos and dodgy lyrics, stuff that has a odd 'car boot' whiff to it. With so much good new music around now I just think it's a shame more if doesn't get a chance to get heard by a wider audience.
