| Among the best pies I ever ate were the potato and meat affairs they used to sell at Preston North End. I have mate up that way and I when Pompey were visiting PNE I would go up for the weekend. A pint of Thwaites and one of these pies was often the highlight of the match. I did bring a couple home once. Sadly, the company who made them went out of business. Apparently the replacements aren't as good. Mrs M works over Borough way and often brings home pie from the market - although I declined her offer last week. She wanted to alleviate my distress over the "smoked ham and mustard" affair, but I felt, at my age, one pie in the week was enough. |
