LTNs clearly do reduce traffic within them which is the whole point. There are dozens of LTNs in Chiswick where roads have been closed to prevent through traffic except they weren’t called LTNs when they were implemented. There are no calls to open up streets like Beverley Rd, Vaughan Ave, Riverview Rd and it will be exactly the same for streets like Harvard Hill, Staveley, Fishers Lane. People will forget that they were once open to traffic. Francis’s argument against LTNs appears to be that if he could ratrun along residential side streets, he is doing people who live on main roads a favour. Of course he only cares about his driving convenience but he can’t say that hence the faux concern. LTNs are simply highway authorities doing their job and managing the road network rather than leaving it up to google to direct drivers off main roads and into side streets if the algorithm thinks it may be able save 30 seconds, |
