If even TfL's favourite academic can't come up with data that shows LTNs don't reduce car use, perhaps it is now time for everyone to admit what always seemed blindingly obvious from the start. This doesn't create the basis for scrapping all of them but it does mean that local authorities should be looking at where their schemes displace traffic to. There needs to be hard questions asked about whether or not some of these schemes have been manipulated to make nice roads nicer and roads were the less well off live, more polluted. |
