You may argue that the catalyst for that was the appalling terrorist action of 7th October. It may have been the proximate cause, but the real cause may be found in 75 years of oppression of Palestinians. If Netanyahu thinks that he will assure Israel's security by the destruction of Hamas at whatever cost to the civilian population of Gaza, he is sadly mistaken. The action in Gaza will most likely spawn a new generation of terrorists, and guarantee trouble for another 75 years.
