This narrative about Chiswick being in decline seems to be being pushed by people who never actually have been here. You need to go to other town centres in different parts of London or across the country to see what a retail desert actually looks like - lots of vacant units and those that are operating are chains or charity shops. Chiswick on the other hand is about to get a cigar shop! I don't plan to be a customer but it is hardly an indication of chronic decline.

Look, not for one moment do I dispute that it is really tough out there for our retailers but most of the factors that are making it difficult are not specific to the area which actually appears to be doing relatively well.

I think when the Empire House development finishes it could really transform the area as you won't have a dead zone in the middle of the High Road discouraging people from walking its length.
