I know that it's de rigueur to slag off the local authority within which you live, and suggest that the grass is greener elsewhere, but when it comes to planning matters the fact is planning policy from national level downwards sets ever-increasing housing unit targets. And I stress the word 'unit' because it's impossible for any urban local authority to get close to achieving those targets without building upwards. Indeed as I've posted previously it should be remembered that the London Plan (which sets the unit targets for each authority within the capital) had to go through the Government before it could be formally adopted, and it was the Government who told the Mayor to rise those targets higher before it would sign off the Local Plan, so it's not good blaming the Mayor either. |
