Cod & cheese trifle sounds very much like the fiskepudding I had as a child in Norway, truly revolting. Although there were puffins, fortunately the Norwegians drew the line at pickling & eating them. Given their remoteness & lack of alternatives, it's not too surprising that the Faroese didn't. Also, given the lack of alternatives on those barren rocks in the middle of the Atlantic, it's not too surprising they've historically taken advantage of the protein & fat rich source of nutrition that whales & dolphins represent, even though nowadays by doing so they're effectively poisoning themselves. |
