| Each to their own but Amazon pay square root of bugger all tax compared to Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrison’s,etc. All the aforementioned waived their rates relief for 20/21 and won’t qualify for a penny of rates relief for 21/22. Amazon Go will pay zero rates on this shop from now till end of March then only effectively 25% of rates for the following 12 months. I suppose if they open enough of them and hit the £2m cap they’ll start to pay some rates but knowing them they keep an eye on that cap and strategise accordingly. Personally I’ll continue to support those companies whom pay into our tax system rather than constantly look for ways to avoid doing so. |
