What a coincidence. There is another Ken Munn who didn't feel the testimony of a single bus driver had any value but here is a person with the same name who thinks a single incident he says he was personally involved in constitutes an argument. Experienced cyclists generally like bus lanes and bus vs cyclist collisions are very rare. The main risk to cyclists is cars turning across the bus lane (a risk which remains present in C9). The argument against seeing bus lanes as a part of cycling infrastructure is that less confident cyclists won't use them for the obvious reason that periodically you will be in close proximity to a bus. Given that the safety gain is more about perception than reality, it is really hard to argue that the removal of bus lanes for cycle lanes is justifiable. Can I repeat my request for any details of what is planned for cycle lanes by the A4 in Hammersmith? An internet search has yielded nothing. |
