Janice,
It is likely that the death rate was falling before lock down was imposed.
The peak death rate was around 8th April.  The average time from infection to death is about 23 days.  Therefore the peak infection would be around 17th March.  Lock down was imposed 23rd March.
It is known that Covid-19 spreads at e greater rate indoors.  It is known that exercise, fresh air and sunshine are important for our immune systems.  Therefore it is quite possible that lock down resulted in more immediate deaths than otherwise even before taking into account the loss of life and livelihoods from the shutting down of parts of the NHS and the economic impacts which will continue into the future.
