There were 20,000 motor vehicles going over it every day just before it closed. There were major repairs done to the bridge in the 1970s, then in the 1990s, so about 20 years seems to be the longest the bridge seems to last before needing to be shut for a few years for repairs. The only way of getting out of that cycle is either drastically cut the volume of motor traffic allowed to use the bridge or knock it down and build a new one. |
