It's four trees that have to be replaced. Taking account of all of the trees along the High Road, in total they offset about 2% of the emissions and particles produced by the traffic passing underneath. I'm afraid they are very far from a complete answer to cleaning up the air we currently have to breathe along the High Road. If we want a cleaner High Road, the best way forward is to take measures to reduce the pollution from the traffic. The EW CS along the Embankment and through the City resulted in a 20% measured fall in particulates, some ten times more than all the trees along the High Road can provide. |
