The main reason GBP hasn't fallen further against EUR is that EUR also fell significantly. Apparently Brexit won't just hurt our economy, but the rest of Europe's as well. Anyway it was very bad news in 1985 and it is bad news again now. Without the Leave vote the GBP would be worth about 15% more against the dollar. Lower USD:GBP rate means more expensive imports, which will probably wipe out any economic benefit we get from increased access to non-EU markets. |
