Hi Neal I think Richards idea of a swift trip along your local motorway is a good one,I'm thinking that it could be that be the catalytic convertor may be blocked. It maybe that as the car is very low mileage it could have been used for short commutes that haven't bought the Cat up to its operating temperature (600-800 degs C). That being the case,if you're lucky you may just clear it and your MPG should go up considerably,if you're unlucky and it's solidly blocked then it will be expensive, who pays for a new one depends on the dealer. An alternative is to take the car to an MOT garage and ask them to do an emission test, that would spot it immediately, you could then go armed with the print-out to the dealer and say something like "What are you going to do about it?" I've had a Google and yes some owners have complained about low MPG but none had anything like as low as yours. Good luck with it! |
