Stuart, was it an LED?. I recently had one fail, after six months.  They are supposed to last 20 years.It was an Osram bulb , LED Superstar 60 with a four year guarantee. On looking at the Osram website I found that the guarantee requires you to go back to the retailer. Of course, I didn't have a receipt but I took my credit card statement along to Robert Dyas. They replaced the bulb without demur.  This might sound like a lot of trouble to go to but at £7.99 a pop....that's two pints of Oliver's Island.
