In Ealing we would add some of them to our garden waste sacks until they started to charge for garden waste. Now they are just swept out into the street. They were at one time deemed too dirty to be used for compost by defra but there are Councils who are now managing to deal with them. http://www.letsrecycle.com/news/latest-news/surrey-street-leaves-pose-low-risk-to-health-in-compost/ http://www.letsrecycle.com/news/latest-news/larac-calls-for-clarity-on-street-sweepings/ I've never understood why the street sweepers aren't separating out all the drinks cans and bottles that they pick up off the street. It isn't that hard. |
