"Water source heat pump technology installed in the Thames next to Battersea Power station would supply 75.000 homes with heat and power with a saving of 50% on low carbon energy bills." I love this idea, but it's not anything like new. Waste heat from Battersea power station was supplied to Pimlico back in the 50s and the system is still in use. Other power stations did the same thing but many of the systems fell into disrepair even before the power stations closed down - partly because they were uncompetitive and people could install their own heating systems and save money. The economics of these systems are so critical that it is hard to get them off the ground and keep them running. |
