As is well known (Sir) Michael Redgrave and family
lived at Bedford House, Chiswick Mall between 1945 and
1954. He had to sell the house in order to meet a
large income tax demand. Coming across a biography
of Redgrave in a secondhand bookshop, out of curiosity
I hastily looked this up to discover that he only
made £7,000 from the sale. Seven thousand pounds.
Assuming it wasn't a misprint that is. Although
evidently he had had to take out a large mortgage,
and he re-sold the house to the people he'd
bought it from, nine years earlier.
