As is well known (Sir) Michael Redgrave and family lived at Bedford House, Chiswick Mall between 1945 and 1954. He had to sell the house in order to meet a large income tax demand. Coming across a biography of Redgrave in a secondhand bookshop, out of curiosity I hastily looked this up to discover that he only made £7,000 from the sale. Seven thousand pounds. Assuming it wasn't a misprint that is. Although evidently he had had to take out a large mortgage, and he re-sold the house to the people he'd bought it from, nine years earlier. michael adams ... |
