FYI (AND ANOTHER THING) Only pedants, dinosaurs and lousy teachers preach the ' rule' never to use “And” and “But” at the start of a sentence.. And those who can actually write continue to take no notice whatsoever. And occasionally, as in the previous sentence, choose to use the word “and” instead of “whilst” just because they can and for the sheer hell of it. Because all silly rules are made to be broken - and because there are examples of fine writing, with sentences beginning with a conjunction, throughout literature. But others who think they know better continue to complain. And why not indeed. ;-) |
