The Mall Galleries have just had a 6-day exhibition called 'Passion for Freedom'.  The exhibition is actually an annual event that exists to celebrate freedom of expression and therefore deliberately includes works that challenge conventions of taste or political orthodoxy.  It is intended to be uncensored and 'shocking'.
But this year the police demanded an additional £36,000 from the gallery to deliver the level of protection they felt would be necessary unless works by an artist known as Mimsy were removed from the show because of their potentially ‘inflammatory content’.  So removed they were.
The works take a swipe at so-called ‘so-called Islamic State’ and have already been exhibited (to acclaim) elsewhere in London and they have been reproduced in the Telegraph and Guardian websites and seem most unlikely to inspire violence, especially if compared to some of the other works being shown in the same exhibition.
I think this is a disgrace and a terrible insult to people whose lives are being ruined by ISIS not to mention ordinary British muslims who would in no way be ‘inflamed’.  What were the police thinking?  For much more, follow the link.  It’s a fascinating if appalling story.
