As someone who has spent almost their entire adult life trying one thing after another to lose weight - then giving up, I reckon I have now cracked it. This is for health reasons, I really, really could not face yet another diet, lots of them work BUT it's keeping the weight off that is the hard bit. So faced with having to do something I started walking for approx. 40 minutes in the morning and controlling portion sizes, the most difficult part. Whenever I was asked do you want a snack I'd stop and think do I want it because I'm hungry or because it is a habit? You'd be surprised how much of it is habit! I also referred to the British Heart Foundation's traffic light list of foods (prominently displayed on the fridge) and substituted foods wherever possible. I also bought a bike so combined that with the walking. I have now lost 44lbs and I have maintained that regime for several years, the weight going at a slow and steady rate, and still going too. I haven't been hungry if I want to eat something I do, but I have learned that treats are fine just don't overdo them. I have never been able to do this, and others are right - it isn't rocket science it is common sense less in - more out, diets can only ever be a short term fix, it is sustaining weight loss that counts. You do not need to spend oodles of money or buy special food or not eat what the rest of the family eat, once your stomach re-adjusts you'll be fine, just stop, and think do I really want this? Half the time you'll find you don't. |
