We (well, they) need two Euros - a 'gold standard' one for dull but fiscally prudent, puritanical, disciplined and hard-working Northern Europeans and a 'Monopoly Money' one for debt-splurging, irresponsible, work-shy, corrupt and fun-loving Mediterranean types. The French would have to decide which side they were on, might be a bit tricky for them.

Start the two at parity, and every 5-10 years once the exchange rate was 10:1, knock off a zero and start again. Or wait a bit longer and knock off two Zeros to save effort.

Simples!
