This is how it goes. Planning permission is given for development provided that mature trees are kept. A year or so after the development is complete the new residents complain of lack of light and leaf debris on their balconies caused by the trees. Result, mature trees are lopped to half their size. Example, cutting of mature Plain trees that stand in front of Chiswick Point flats. Or willow trees along The Thames, cut to half their height as they hinder river views from the new apartment blocks. Surely the trees were kept in the first place because they were so magnificent, so why not leave them that way.
