Claire I do agree. Our little hedgehogs were so small that they only just fitted the palm of my hand. Their mother had been hit by a car and they were running about on the pavement crying. We made them a little house and enclosure in the house and phoned the hedgehog preservation society for instructions. They were adorable little characters and when they were big enough to be outside we made a bigger house in the back garden and blocked up all holes in the fencing and gates to keep them safe from foxes until their prickles hardened. We called them Brush and Broom. When they were big enough and prickles hardened. Ouch! we made a hole in the fence so that they could get into the wood next door and find their own food. They still came back evey evening though for a digestive biscuit until building work started next door then we had mice instead! Foxes are another matter though and not in their natural habitat. They'd be better off in Richmond Park except for all the food that's lying around all over the place here and doesn't need catching. |
