In my youth I spent a little time in Morley amongst what would once have been called good salt of the earth Yorkshire folk who would rather have slit their own throats than vote Tory. There were two interesting "quirks" of the inhabitants 1. They hated being patronised particularly by people from nearby Leeds and 2. They were extremely proud of their highly successful rugby union side (in a wider area dominated by a Rugby League sides). These were and I suspect still are not people to be trifled with as Ed Balls (the brilliant economist) has learnt to his cost. |
