Collared and tagged (with full address) is a current legal requirement - £5,000 fine if caught without. Compulsory microchipping won't come in until next year. Unfortunately neither are foolproof - dogs can slip their collars and you need to keep chip details up to date if you change address, phone number etc. But if you do both now, for both dogs and cats, the chance of getting them back before they are killed or injured on roads or through one of the very many other dangers there are, or put down by a 'well-meaning' rescue home or vet are that much less. |
