Much hinges on how those who voted Liberal in 2010 choose to cast their vote this time. When I have canvassed such people sadly many fail to recall the economic mess inherited by the Coalition Government (however it was caused) and fail to appreciate the important contribution of their party to the current economic recovery, and the many other social, educational and health achievements of the last five years. Many foolishly, in my opinion, choose to view the austerity programme as a purely political choice rather than as an economic necessity. If the Coalition Government had failed in its objectives those who would have felt the pain most of all would have been the weakest and those least able to defend themselves - you only have to look at Greece and France to see what the alternative for Britain might have been. |
