I used to buy a lot online and occasionally on the night. Mostly it was fine and I got some lovely stuff, but on one occasion I bought a bone china tea set which they said they would wrap and have ready for collection. They carried it into a cab for me, it sat with me until I carried it into the house, but when I unpacked it - what a shock! Several items broken and some missing. And on another occasion, when they brought out a set of crystal glasses I had ordered, not all the items were there and they tried to say there were two sets shown, which was nonsense. To give them their due, they did not quibble, although how they could have wrapped broken items is beyond my comprehension, and refunded some money for the missing and broken items, perhaps because I have been a long-standing customer. But after that I always insisted on inspecting the items to be sure they were all there and matched the photos/description before they were wrapped up. Once a lovely piece of material that had been part of the package went missing and it turned out it had been mistakenly been sold to someone else - they did chase it up and got it back for me.
I have also been there waiting for my items and heard owners of items fuming that the auction house has lost them or not put them up for sale when they said they would. But by and large my experiences have been positive, although it has involved a lot of to-ing and fro-ing on occasions, and it would be a pity if it went downhil as it is a nice way to spend an hour or so browsing with a glass of wine or a coffee. |
