| "Can you make ANY sense of the Green's financial statement?" *reads* Wealth tax on high earners, 60% higher rate of tax, more people at HMRC collecting tax, Land Value Tax replacing Council Tax and business rates (an excellent idea, that), commitment to allocating 45% of GDP to public spending, which is what Germany has and less than the UK had in 2010 (another example of George Osborne proposing something completely crazy, not the Greens). Higher rate of corporation tax on larger companies. Various tax tweaks removed, mostly ones that benefit the well off. A really interesting idea on inheritance tax to encourage bequests to the less well off by levying tax on the wealth of the recipient, not the size of the estate - leave your money to a relation without much cash and they won't pay tax on it. Scrapping the current benefits system and replacing with a Citizen's Basic Income is in, because it's a long standing Green policy, but there's no commitment to do any more than consult and research on it, which is at least realistic. The costings are stated to be in a separate document (page 54). |
