Beefing up our conventional resources would be more cost-effective than replacing Trident. I fail to see how a nuclear deterrent will protect us from Isis or any other jihadists. Nor will it stop Putin using naked aggression in pursuit of the idea of greater Russia - he knows full well that we wouldn't nuke Moscow if, for example, he were to annex Latvia.
