Stuart Having set up and achieved zero waste for the Bedford Park Festival Green Days, a two day outdoor event with thousands of people and two tonnes of rubbish and consequently, much to my horror, being required at City Hall for the Mayors waste strategy for London ( there was no getting out of it!) I came to know more than most people about the workings of the waste management industry. Months of going through the waste strategies of all 33 boroughs and the Home Counties, meetings with the Environment Agency, Defra and representatives from all waste management companies. Travelling around in lorries to see how it was all being down, writing out reports and reading through vast quantities of files. This wasn't merely for households, it was for municipal, commercial, demolition, aggregates, chemicals and everything else. Use of waterways etc. Can you imagine? Hard hats, ear defenders, boots, hi viz jackets and face masks. All this being voluntary. They don't usually ask ordinary householders never mind ladies! It isn't my favourite subject and I had no ambitions for a career in waste management but I'm still consulted on rubbish matters. I don't live in Ealing and can't sign a petition so am simply passing it on for those who will be affected. It's for you to decide :)) |
