Spot on Ian.

All broadband is FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) the green boxes you see at the side of the street.

It is then down to the distance from your home to the cabinet. I have the nonsense that the nearest cabinet to my home (around 20m) is not the one that serves my home. people connected to this get c.75Mb/sec.

'My' cabinet is 700m away (there is no duct route to my closest cabinet) and I struggle to get 30MB/sec.

I was talking to an Openreach 'boost' engineer who was clear that wholesale FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) is years away although it is now the 'norm' for new builds.
