Without being too geeky about this - the £10m was a surplus on the revenue account and the cash to renovate Chiswick Library would have to come out of the capital budget or other "off-balance sheet" sources such as S106 money. Please do not blame me I do not make these rules up. What is exceptionally galling is when Labour Councillors make up fairy stories that Conservative Councillors have at some stage blocked any sensible scheme to bring the Library up to standard. No matter what your party affiliations are - just pause for a second and ask why on earth we would do such a thing? One of my esteemed colleagues on the Labour Benches protested at the last Borough Council meeting that Chiswick Library was fully DDA compliant just because it said so on the Council's website. He had even seen a photo of a ramp for wheelchairs and why did we need a lift? I rest my case m'lud. |
