Most people (not all) generally try and leave enough space in front and behind for everyone to have enough room to get out of the space with reasonable ease. That means leaving a gap between you and the cars in front and behind. If some oaf then comes along and bumps you along towards the adjacent car (thus reducing that gap) and squeezes himself into the other adjacent space, the clear implication is that whatever space had been there in front and behind you has now been reduced, or maybe even eliminated. So the result of this selfish behaviour is that your neighbouring cars may well have to resort to "bumping" other cars out of the way in order to get their cars out of the space. I have had this happen to me, getting back to my car and finding there is only 3 inches of space in front and behind, making it almost impossible to leave unless I shunt someone out of the way.

So NO it's not acceptable and people shouldn't do it.
