Scotland V Italy games are always hard to predict. The Italians are a real confidence team and they have beaten Scotland numerous times in the past and will always believe they can win. The Italians have looked pretty good in patches this year, especially in the centres where they ripped England apart a couple of times in round 2. That said, the Scottish back line just about had the edge on both the Welsh and the French in attack and their defence has been very good so far. The loss of Russell and Richie Gray will be a setback but they should still get the win fairly comfortably with an all Glasgow back line, especially if Beattie can find some form against Parisse. Favaro will have a real point to prove to his Glasgow soon-to-be team mates mind you. Scrum could be an issue as Swinson replacing Gray means that the second row is a bit small by international standards so the engine room might not give much go forward. I reckon it will be the usual pattern of Italy doing well for the first half and then being gradually picked apart in the second. Scotland by 10+

France V Wales will be interesting. Wales have finally dropped Cuthbert and started Liam Williams instead, with North. Williams is comfortably Wales’ most exciting attacker so this is one in their favour. Might have a sneaky first try scorer bet on him. The big lump Bastareaud has been dropped for another big lump who seems like Bastareaud, but not as good. However, Parra starting at 9 should give France a little more speed allowing Lopez more time to set Fofana free. In Cardiff I’d have gone for Wales but in Paris I have France by 1-5.

Ireland V England is another head scratched. Ireland have been solid but disappointing so far. I really rate Henshaw but their conservative game plan hasn’t given him the chance to shine. He’ll have a tough day with a confident pairing of Burrell and Joseph running at him. Ireland will definitely have to find another gear that has been missing in their previous games. I’ve heard that Schmidt is sticking with McGath rather than bringing back Healy. That’s a big vote of confidence but I’m not sure it’s the right move as, on his day, Healy is the best loosehead in the northern hemisphere. Another tough game to call but I’m going for England by 1-5.
