Brendan, all the evidence would indicate that the Council are ONLY considering / consulting with those roads that are pressing for a CPZ. The agenda for tomorrow's meeting has been set out by the very Traffic Department whose dogged determination to press ahead with an area wide CPZ in the face of such wide spread opposition has been the cause of most of the this debate for several years now. The documents submitted by Traffic Officers are unbelievably biased towards the roads which are in favour of a CPZ, and totally dismissive of those roads across the wider area which are against. They admit in black and white in their submissions that all the anti-CPZ responses regarding the 12 road extension "consultation" were not even included in the results. they just threw them in the bin. It is hard to see how the Traffic Officers could be MORE biased towards the few roads pressing for a CPZ, and how they could be MORE dismissive of the overwhelming opinion against CPZ from the wider GP community. We can only hope (and I appreciate that you have said this yourself in an earlier post) that the Council decides to take a genuinely open approach to this question and conducts a transparent consultation across the whole area to understand what the views of ALL residents are, not just those asking for a CPZ in one or two roads. Because any CPZ impacts everyone, and so everyone should have the chance to be heard. Up until now they have simply been ignored. |
